"Click here to reload the configuration" is in a loop.

Tue Feb 04, 2020 2:46 pm

I just added a vlan to one of our WS-12-250-AC switches and pressed save. The change appears to be in effect but the switch is now repeatedly saying:
"The configuration has changed on the device. You will not be able to save any configuration changes. Click here to reload the configuration."

I "click here" and the page reloads, but then about 4 seconds later, the same message appears. I've tried using the browser's reload button. I've tried using Google Chrome, Firefox and Brave browsers - same behavior.

What's going on?

Whoops, an update... I made a second change (turned off PoE power to one radio). Now the problem has cleared.
Any ideas what might have happened?

So what that message is for is if say, two people, person A and B are connected to the same switch on different computers. Then person A makes a change to the switch (let's just say they change a port name). Now person B will not be aware of this change until their browser refreshes. Anytime the switch detects that the web UI in the browser doesn't have the latest config change this message will appear.

This will also occur if say you have your switches web UI up in a browser and also you are connected to it over PuTTY on the serial port. Then you make a config change in the CLI. The web UI will then display this message.

The way this works is with the "Config_Version" in the beginning of the config.json file.
If this was to get out of sync with the recorded one in the web UI. Then this loop might occur.
Although I can't say I know off the top of my head what might cause that. I'd need more info about how it occurred.
Well, unless someone else was making a couple changes while you where refreshing the page.

Didn't see it in a while but when it's happen, do a cosmetic change like change the name of a port and it will stop.
