VLAN simple question

Fri Dec 14, 2018 11:36 am

This should be easy to answer for the experts here.
We have a WISP switch WS-8-150-AC.
We would like untagged packets to ingress on ports 2 and 3, egress tagged on port 1.
Tagged packets would ingress on port 1 and egress on the appropriate port, 2 or 3, untagged.
I’ve read a lot of the posts in the forum, but would like to know what has to be changed in order to achieve these results.
Thank You in advance.

All you should need is this, you do not need to use allowed VLAN list.

Un-Tagged packets entering port 2 would exit Port 1 encapsulated with VLAN ID 254
Encapsulated packets with VLAN ID 254 entering port 1 would exit Port 2 Un-Tagged

Un-Tagged packets entering port 3 would exit Port 1 encapsulated with VLAN ID 5
Encapsulated packets with VLAN ID 5 entering port 1 would exit Port 3 Un-Tagged

However you would not be able to access the switch UI from ports 1,2,3

You could but a U on VLAN 1 Port 1 and still access the UI/CLI from port 1 with Un-Tagged packets on port 1
You could but a T on VLAN 1 Port 1 and still access the UI/CLI from port 1 with Encapsulated packets with VLAN ID 1 on port 1

From here is gets more complicated and many combination.

You can also put a non route-able IP on VLAN 5 and 254 and access the UI/CLI via that IP.

Since I have no idea of your IP sub-netting and routing it gets difficult to predict what you want.

Again VLANs are handled pretty standard across all switches, this is not something unique to Netonix switches but is more rather an IT networking issue.
Support is handled on the Forums not in Emails and PMs.

That is exactly the answer I needed, just wanted to confirm that the basic settings will work as we need.
The additional information about accessing the switch will also come in handy.
Pretty sure we’ll get the IP addressing right,
So, Thank You.

I have a Netonix WS-8-150.
Up to now I still forget how to set "U" on a port for a VLAN. I am always given T or E choices.
Please help.

You already have U or Q on an other VLAN of this port.

You can have a single U, or Q, by port.
