I did a dumb thing with a 48VH port

Sun Jun 28, 2020 4:45 am

So I was half asleep today and plugged a desktop into a port on a Netonix switch while doing some labbig that had the port set to 48VH. Totally my fault.

Thankfully the network device I was using was only a USB to ethernet for testing.

HOWEVER, the switch port now only operates in 100mb mode, it won't do gigabit. You have to set it to 100mb to get it to link. If I run a port test with nothing plugged in, it says pin 4+5 are shorted, all others are open.
I haven't run the tests on - https://forum.netonix.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2780 yet, but I have removed and very carefully examined the board and can't see any physical damage.

If I turn 48VH back on on the port the red light on the right hand side flashes.

I need to get it repaired.

Has anyone experienced this before? If so what would normally blow on the switch to cause that? I'll send it to a person competent in circuit board electronics repair, but I'm interested to know what effect it may have so I can give them a heads up.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, are these reasonably easy to source (I'm not in the USA), the switch is a WS-12-250-AC ? As I can't see them on Digikey.

Is there a way to test them with a Fluke meter to confirm?
