We are looking at the issue some people report about bouncing SFP modules on config changes.

We are only seeing it when you add or remove a VLAN.

Now keep in mind I disable STP / RSTP on my SFP ports because they are usually in a 2 port VLAN for my back hauls with the SFP to router and copper port to AF24. Those ports can never see a loop as they are fixed on both ends and I never wanted an OSPF convergence to occur from an STP / RSTP (false) event.

Stephen is looking into if this can be avoided. It occurs due to SFP re-initializing and as I said if STP / RSTP in on for that port then it has to go through that process as well prolonging the even and making it more noticeable.

NO COMMENTS ON RC2 YET????

We deployed RC2 on one of our switches this morning (NZT) to test. Will report back tomorrow to confirm that we no longer see memory loss occurring after a longer uptime, but preliminary results after <8 hours is looking promising.

I've just upgraded one on a test site now. Public holiday tomorrow so will report back on memory usage after that.

Turning off STP does make the SFP issue much less impacting but it is still there. We've tested and think this SFP issue might have appeared sometime after firmware 1.5.5.

We've tested a WS-8-150-DC with firmware versions 1.5.12, 1.5.14 and 1.5.15rc1 and observed the SFP issue on all of them.

We could replicate the SFP issue on the command line as follows:

Code: Select all
show log
config t
 vlan 10
  port 4 t
  exit
 exit
show log

Now you only have to turn STP / RSTP OFF on SFP ports (Captain obvious here).
Not sure how or if we can get around this yet, but Stephen is looking at.

After 24 hours we've seen no size increase in our test switch's snmpd.log file, the "No MemShared" error is not showing in logs, and overall available memory has stayed the same. I'll roll this out to a few of our production hosts as well to increase sample size, but looking good so far. Cheers guys.
