The interesting thing to have done was ask the installer to pull out the SFP module and re-seat it and see of traffic would have resumed.

By that point it had been down 30min so I just wanted it stable. Maybe if I get brave I will try again.

One question. I know you said the switch temps were fine, but is it possible for an sfp to overheat? I know the copper sfps get quite warm even in our HVAC controlled server room.

I am going to take the "bad" copper sfp and move it to a heavily used but non-critical link. We'll see which goes down first the sfp or the switch.

The sfp will be going into a MT CCR1016 sfp router. If the sfp is bad I should know soon as the switch it was in has gone down 4-5 times in the last 5 days.

Well I have had this supposedly bad copper SFP deployed elsewhere with no issue for the whole week. Not sure what to think. Is it a Netonix and MT copper sfp compatibility issue? Is it temperature related as in does the SFP have issues in high heat? Is it something else?

Anyone have any thoughts?

Could be the SFP can not stand the heat.

Try another SFP module

Hi,

I have an issue which seems to have just started.

The switch will randomly lock up and I have to go and reboot it.

I have Ether1 on my Mikrotik connected to the Netonix however I can't ping the Netonix or see any MAC addresses in the Mikrotik ARP.

It seems auto-negotiation still works as it connects at 1Gbps.

I replaced a two year old switch with a brand new one and I'm still having this issue once or twice a week.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

James

Netonix Port MTU 1528
Mikrotik Port MTU is 1500 / 1580 (L2)

I don't see any errors or overruns so am I right in thinking MTU is not the issue here.

Well it is not the switch as it happens with both units.

More information is needed to even guess what could be the issue.

Post up screen grabs of the following TABs: Status - Ports - VLAN - STP - Device/Config - Device/Status

Sorry forgot to mention, I disabled loop protection after I had rebooted it last night. Im not sure if this would cause it or not.

The IP for the switch is 172.16.10.2. I connected my laptop to several ports last night and I couldn't ping the IP. I could also not ping any of the devices connected.

Once rebooted, everything was fine again.
