Anybody Monitoring these with The Dude?

Thu Oct 08, 2015 6:19 pm

I guess this is a Dude problem, but I'm curious if anyone else is seeing this. 2 of the 4 Netonix switches I have deployed have a random issue where the dude can no longer read any of the snmp probes, but the ping probe still works fine. When this occurs it happens on the same 2 switches at the exact same moment and will eventually clear after several hours at the same moment on both switches. I can also clear this with a reboot of the Dude server. It's not a network issue because I can still read snmp from those switches with other devices. I can't find anything in the Netonix logs or Dude logs to indicate anything is happening, they just stop talking. The other 2 Netonix switches have never done this.

Anyways, sorry I know this is not a Netonix issue, but it's strange that it doesn't happen with other devices. Am I the only being attacked by Gremlins? :D

Gremlins are already known issue thats why most of us keep water away from our devices :D

I love water! It's very useful in showing us where our cable breaks are located! :D

You can even put colored dye in it so wont mess with rain water or other contamination agents :D :D

But again on topic do you use DHCP? Are you sure that pings are going at those devices when outbreak occure? Can you access switches web UI at that time?

We have a similar problem with Dude. This is a Dude fault as far as I am aware.

We also have a problem with Dude in not being able to monitor the Netonix switches using SNMP v2, v1 works fine.

Really strange.

But then again, Dude is free, dude hasn't been updating in donkeys, so you have to expect it.

My switches are statically assigned. When they fail probes from the dude I can still access the web interface on both of the 2 switches. I can also snmp-walk them from other servers, just not the dude server. It's really strange how they both stop talking and restart talking at the same moment. These outages can last up to 24 hours before clearing up on their own. (Or rebooting the dude server fixes it instantly). The 2 switches are on the same network segment so I guess something could be going on there, but the other devices, mikrotiks, ubiquiti, canopy, etc will still work during these outages. In fact devices on the other end of the switch will continue to probe normally.

And yes the dude is free, I wish my budget was higher lol, but it's gotten us by a looooonng time now. :)
