v1.3.5 FINAL bug reports and comments

I ran into 1 WS-12-250-AC RevD that now reports board Power under status as:

Board 48V 13.5V
Board 24V 6.7V
Board 3V 0.3V

This seems like a reporting problem, as the switch operates normally. Any suggestions?

Questions:
1) Are you using SFP modules? Since the I2C bus is shared with the sensors some SFP modules will cause I2C errors. Simply unplugging and plugging back in will resolve or maybe try another model SFP. It is easy to tell by simply removing module and see if issue goes away.

2) Can you reboot the device and see if the problem goes away?

The only other reason I have seen voltages reported wrong was a damaged board but you say the voltages were correct before upgrade HOWEVER we were not making them obvious when they were out of range in previous firmware so they may have been wrong before you upgraded the switch and never noticed?

I just tried a WS-12-250-AC Rev D & it reports voltages fine.

I flashed another WS-12-250-AC Rev D and it reports voltages fine as well. Both the unit that's misreporting and the unit that works are using 1 SFP, both the same. Is there a way to extract the model without pulling the GBIC, as I don't remember the version?

1) See previous response. Site is remote and will take a while to get to.

If you mouse over the Port on the Christmas Tree (switch graphics at top) it will tell you the reported SFP module

If a board is damaged say from a surge or ground potential shift it can blow out a sensor on the I2C bus messing up other I2C readings.

The switch will continue to operate but telemetry such as voltages and watts will be wrong.

You downgrade to v1.3.3 then look at those voltages and if they are still wrong then it is highly possible the board is damaged and you never knew it because we did not used to make you take notice to them.

Ground potential shift damage is what most people think is surge damage from a storm but is because the tower ground and the electrical service ground gets above 20 Ohms difference and at that point can either blow the Ethernet transformer or take out a current sensor.

Be careful guys. I just upgraded 5 of the 6 port mini switches with no problem...like the new features although the log is highlighting on two of my switches that board voltage is out of range (23.7v) however I have 48.7 volts on the board, so not sure how the 24 volt board can report as low?

The reason I said be careful is because I just flashed ws-12-250a and it never came back. The entire site is now down and I am about to drive 40 miles to find out what happened. The switch had the previous release of firmware and had upgraded fine last time.

Derek, sorry to hear this. I personally did hundreds of upgrades & they all came back fine. Real sorry you have to drive there. Please let me know if ok after you cycle power on switch, and can you tell me what OS you are using (ie. chrome, firefox, etc)?

I thought that I had posted an update once I arrived onsite but I can`t find it so must have messed up somehow. When I arrived on site the switch was lit as normal but no traffic was passing. I pulled the power cord and re-instated it and it booted up fine and had the new firmware on it. I did another 7 switches and this only happened to 1 other switch. All working fine now....but I am a bit nervous to upgrade to 1.3.5 remotely, so will wait until I go to site next week. I have a few switches complaining about 23.7 volts but I can live with that until I am onsite.
