Just double checking here, the ethernet ports on these switches are grounded through the mains ground like the ToughSwitches, correct? (AC versions)
So the external ground lug isn't really necessary?
I'm planning to buy two of the WS-8-250AC soon as I'm also plagued by those 100/1000 buffer problems with ToughSwitches, in my case it's because of the 1GigBE trunk port between switch and router.

They are grounded through the AC cord yes. However it is always a good idea to ground the chassis for extra protection in case someone has there had on the metal chassis and there is a sudden surge from the tower.
If you are using one of our DC switches then you MUST ground the chassis to Earth Ground to provide grounding for the shielded CAT5e ESD protection (Tough Cable or similar).
